Implementation agenda Local Inclusion Agenda 2024-2026

The City of Leeuwarden is working with the Accessibility Working Group to create an accessible Leeuwarden. The Accessibility Working Group consists of experience experts with physical and sensory disabilities. Together with them, the local authority implements the Local Inclusion Agenda. A new implementation agenda Local Inclusion Agenda 2024-2026 was recently adopted by the City Executive.

Website access

Research shows that our website does not yet meet all the requirements of the ‘Temporary Decree on Online Government Access’. We are working to improve the following subjects:

Documents

Not all documents are available online. That includes application forms for other documents. In 2023, we are looking into what needs to be done to make these documents accessible online. Staff will also be trained to post new documents in digital form on the website in 2023.

Can’t read a document? Contact the City of Leeuwarden.

Videos

Not all videos can be accessed online. In 2023, we are looking into what needs to be done to make these videos accessible online. Staff will also be trained to post new documents in digital form on the website in 2023.

Digital forms

We try to ensure that new forms comply with accessibility requirements.

Other websites and apps

We aim to improve, replace or discontinue other websites and Apps we are responsible for.

Other languages

English-language texts on Dutch-language pages are not yet marked as English. The entire website is being translated into English in 2023. After that, there will no longer be any English text on the Dutch pages.

We are also doing other things to improve our accessibility.

  • Accessibility requirements will become part of our procurement policy. That means they will be included in all public tenders.
  • The editors of our website provide texts that can be accessed online.
  • Some texts on the website are tested together with experience experts.
  • A company specialising in digital accessibility performs regular spot checks on whether our website is still compliant.
  • Our staff are also trained how to handle digitally accessible texts. From 2023 onwards, these training courses will be extended to the other requirements.

User tests

Our new website was launched in October 2022. Users of our website have tested it. Also people with a visual or intellectual disability.

The results have been used to improve our website.
