Download and complete the Application form for exemption from compulsory education. Send the form by post to the City of Leeuwarden. You can also hand it in at the Town Hall.

You are required to attend school between the ages of 5 and 16.
Between the age of 16 and 18 you are subject to a basic qualification requirement. This means that you must obtain an entry-level qualification. That is senior secondary education (Dutch ‘Havo’) or senior secondary vocational education (Dutch ‘MBO’) certificate (level 2 or higher.
Are you following practical education or education in the specialisations of structured work or daytime activities in secondary special education (VSO)? In that case, you are exempt from the qualification requirement.
