About the project

Leeuwarden is among the so-called ‘Reference Cities’ within the CrAFt project. There are 60 of them across Europe. They are working towards an inclusive, sustainable and climate-neutral city. CrAFt is part of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative.

What is the purpose of the NEB?

To bring together policymakers, designers, artists, scientists and residents. This is to work together on projects that help make cities more sustainable and of higher quality.

Examples of the project

During project Bosk, hundreds of trees were seen walking around Leeuwarden. This is a project covered by the idea of the NEB and also of CrAFt.

The Spoordok area is another good example of this. This area is being developed into a new neighbourhood. A new approach to living and working space is being realised in the city. We want to do that in the Spoordok area in a circular, sustainable, inclusive and attractive way.
