Health note Healthy Together
The Health Memorandum Healthy Together from the municipality of Leeuwarden for the coming years explains how we want to improve the health of residents. We not only want people not to be sick, but also for everyone to actively participate in society and have meaningful experiences. This Health Memorandum was submitted to the municipal council by the mayor and aldermen in January 2024. A decision on this will follow shortly.
Goals
The most important goals are that all residents of the municipality of Leeuwarden are healthy, experience a good quality of life and have equal opportunities to grow up, live and grow old in a healthy way.
Approach
The municipality’s approach is about 4 things:
- Ensuring that everyone has the same opportunities to live a healthy life.
- Ensure a healthy environment.
- Improve mental health.
- Helping people grow old healthily.
The municipality wants to intervene in time and prevent people from becoming ill. We want to do this together with residents, professionals and other organizations. This means that everyone plays a role and is jointly responsible for the well-being of the residents. To see whether the approach works, we want to talk to residents and professionals and conduct research, specifically at district and village level. This way we can understand which residents need extra attention.

Healthy Together Event
The ‘Healthy Together’ event was on November 2, 2023. This event focused on health in the municipality of Leeuwarden. Residents, professionals and municipal employees entered into discussions with each other.
- For example, how do we ensure the same opportunities for a healthy life?
- How do we create the ideal healthy living environment?
- How do we ensure that we are mentally healthy?
- And how do we grow old fit?
Inspiration for our new health policy
During this event we received inspiration and thought together about what is needed to improve the health of the residents of our municipality. In the document ‘Healthy Together’ we have combined all the opinions and ideas of the visitors. We have included this input in the new health policy and the choices we make.
