Voting as a new EU resident
Letters have been sent to new EU residents living in the City of Leeuwarden. This letter is for residents of the municipality of Leeuwarden who are not Dutch and have the nationality of another member state of the European Union (EU).
Why was this letter sent?
As a new EU resident, you can decide for yourself in which EU country you vote in the European Parliament elections. This could be in the Netherlands, the EU country where you live, or in the EU country of which you have nationality. If you want to vote in the municipality in which you live, you must register with the municipality.
Didn't receive a letter?
Do you have EU nationality and have you not received a letter about voting in the Netherlands? That’s right, residents with Dutch nationality do not receive a letter but automatically receive a voting card. A voting card is proof that you are allowed to vote.
