Limited change

The initiative calls for a limited change to municipal land occupied by the Dairy Campus. The change allows the Diary Campus to keep the same area of land while ensuring the initiative has sufficient land in use.

Cultivation of Elephant grass (Miscanthus)

By leasing the relevant land in Middelsee to Fokkens Grondgoed B.V., the municipality of Leeuwarden is implementing the Circular Economy Implementation Programme 2024 – 2027.

By growing elephant grass, the local authority aims to boost the market for bio-based materials. It is conceivable that the houses to be built at this site in the future will be built with the elephant grass grown on site.

Fokkens Grondgoed B.V. has presented the local authority with a detailed plan that will allow it to start cultivating elephant grass in the short term (by 1 January 2025). By facilitating this initiative, the local authority can achieve its policy objectives in a timely manner. The local authority is also thus stimulating the progress of housing production in the Zuidlanden and Middelsee.
