Makeover for Westersingel and Pier Panderstraat
We are giving Westersingel and Pier Panderstraat a makeover. This is necessary because the asphalt of the road is deteriorating. We also want to reduce the speed limit to 30 km per hour.
Activities
A major goal of the refurbishment of Westersingel and Pier Panderstraat is to reduce the speed on both streets to 30 kilometres per hour. The crossing at Molenstraat and Fonteinstraat will also be improved, the existing trees will be replaced and there will be more greenery.
Replacement and reinforcement of sections of the quay wall
As well as the refurbishment, part of the quay wall will also be replaced and another part strengthened. This is necessary because on these sections the piles under the quay wall have been damaged. As a result, they are no longer strong enough to support the quay wall.
Preliminary design
The preliminary design of the redevelopment of Westersingel and Pier Panderstraat was presented to the neighbourhood in community building the Remise on 12 June 2024. Based on the comments received, the local authority is now finalising the design. We expect the final draft to be posted on this page by the end of October. After that, the design will be technically developed and companies can bid to carry out the work: also known as tendering.
Work schedule
Work is scheduled to start in March 2025. A walk-in event for local residents will be organised beforehand, at which questions can be asked about the implementation, planning and obstructions. This will include contacts from the local authority, who know more about the work.
