Registering a birth
Register the birth in the municipality where your baby was born. Do this within 3 days of the child being born. The day of birth does not count. You can only register the child’s birth online if you are the child’s parent or parents.
What do you need to register a birth online?
- DigiD login details of the parent or parents.
- The parent or parents are registered in a municipality in the Netherlands.
- Birth certificate. You will be given this by the hospital or your midwife. This is the card you are given after the child is born with the pink or blue bow attached.
- An extract of the deed of acknowledgement (if you have one).
- A document showing the choice of name (if you have one).
- An anonymous donor declaration (if you have one). This is issued by the Artificial Fertilisation Donor Data Foundation.
Entering your child in the marriage or partnership certificate
Go to the Town Hall and take your marriage or partnership certificate with you.
Are you unable or unwilling to register a birth online?
