Gaming and slot machines
If you want to install a slot machine or fruit machine (gaming machine), you need a gaming machine licence. You can only do this if you have an alcohol licence. You must also meet a number of requirements. A gaming machine licence is granted for 12 months or 4 years.

Download the Application form for a presence permit (PDF, 131.87 KB) and fill in. Send the form to the City of Leeuwarden. You can also hand it in at the Town Hall.
What are the requirements?
- You may apply for a licence for up to two gaming machines.
- The gaming machine may only be placed in a high-threshold establishment. That could be a café or restaurant.
The conditions of a high-threshold establishment are
- You have an alcohol licence.
- Your visitors come mainly for the food and drink. There is no other activity that attracts a different kind of visitor.
- Your visitors are aged 18 or above.
Do you want a gaming arcade?
This licence is granted for 5 years. A maximum of 1 amusement arcade is allowed in the City of Leeuwarden. This is stated in the ‘Regulation on gaming machine halls City of Leeuwarden 2014’. Currently, there is already a slot machine hall in the City of Leeuwarden. No more are permitted.
