The City of Leeuwarden has a number of local cemeteries. There is no city crematorium.

Opening hours
- You can visit a cemetery from sunrise to sunset.
- Burial, interment of ashes and scattering of ashes can be arranged on weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm. Ceremonies start on the hour. The last opportunity for the start of a ceremony is at 15:00 pm.
- Burials can be conducted on Saturdays from 10 am to noon. Funerals start on the hour. The last opportunity for the start of a ceremony is at noon.
- The stated times are the arrival times at the cemetery.

Cemetery maintenance
The City of Leeuwarden maintains the public cemeteries. If you pay grave fees, you usually automatically contribute to maintenance. Some graves require you to pay separately for cemetery maintenance and grave coverings. You can read more about this under grave coverings.
