WhatsApp Neighbourhood Watch Group
You can use WhatsApp in your district, neighbourhood or village to identify unsafe situations. Through a WhatsApp group, you can share suspicious situations with your nearby neighbours. The local authority and the police cooperate in this initiative. In Leeuwarden, too, WhatsApp groups are active in several neighbourhoods and neighbourhood watch WhatsApp signs have been created.
Where are WhatsApp groups active
Through the WhatsApp Neighbourhood Watch website, you can check whether a WhatsApp group is already active in your neighbourhood. If no WhatsApp group is active yet, you may want to take the initiative to start one. The document WhatsApp group (PDF, 914.03 KB) contains all the information. For all technical questions, please refer to the WhatsApp website.
WhatsApp neighbourhood watch signs
In certain neighbourhoods, WhatsApp neighbourhood watch signs have been put up in public areas. Do you want this too? If so, contact the neighbourhood panel so that they can compile these requests. Submit your request by email to: gemeente@leeuwarden.nl.
The request must meet the following conditions:
- The request is submitted for the entire neighbourhood.
- A map of the neighbourhood showing the signs is included in the request.
- The signs at the district’s approach roads are ready.
- The signs indicate where people can sign up for the WhatsApp group.
- If the WhatsApp neighbourhood prevention signs are self-paid.
Ordering and placing the WhatsApp signs
If you meet the conditions, the local authority will give you a quote. If you agree to it, the local authority will order the signs so that the same signs are used as much as possible. This raises awareness of WhatsApp groups. The local authority will contact you to place the signs at a specific time and then send you the invoice.
