Cultural-historical landscape
Do you want to drain a ditch, modify a riverbank, or carry out earthworks in cultural-historical landscape? You may need a permit for this.
Examples of cultural heritage landscape
- Old roads elevated in the landscape (dikes).
- Winding ditches as remnants of the course of an ancient gully.
- Ditches around a historic farmhouse.
- Old agricultural allotment ditches.
- Duck decoys.
Permit
Check the environment plan
A environment plan states whether a ditch, watercourse, road or area is culturally valuable. This can be indicated in several ways. There may be a ‘double destination – Cultural History Value’. Or the rules for a destination state that the landscape is protected, or there is an ‘area of operation’ with which the landscape is protected. In these situations you are not allowed to change the landscape. In some cases, an exception is made. Apply for an environment permit.
Water permit
In many cases, you will need a water permit. Contact Wetterskip Fryslân.
Protected animal and plant species
Are protected animal and plant species present? If so, you may have to comply with the Nature Protection Act. Contact the Province of Friesland.
