Have you found an item, lost something or had your bike stolen? Report this as soon as possible and describe the item as precisely as you can.

That includes loose keys, umbrellas, gloves, scarves, children’s cuddly toys. These items are difficult to describe very precisely. They can belong to more than 1 person.

Handing in or collecting found property
This is done at the AFAC (General Bicycle Settlement Centre) at Voltastraat 11 (at the back) in Leeuwarden.

Proof that you are the rightful owner
You can prove that you are the owner with purchase receipts, photos, warranty certificates or by knowing specific features of the item. You can collect the item as soon as you have proved it is yours. You must also be able to identify yourself with a valid ID.
Keeping found property at home
You will need to properly look after and maintain the property. If the person who lost the property reports, they will be given your address or phone number.
Bicycle lost or stolen
Check whether it has been found at the website Verloren of Gevonden (Lost & Found) (in Dutch only).
Is your bike not listed?
Check again the next day. Staff try to place incoming bikes on this website within one day. But this does not always work out.
Removed or impounded bicycles
The AFAC (General Bicycle Handling Centre) keeps the bicycles taken away by the City of Leeuwarden. This is done with bikes that do not seem to belong to anyone (known in Dutch as “weesfietsen, or ‘orphan bikes’), bicycle wrecks and bikes left in prohibited zones. This also applies to bicycles found or impounded by the Friesland Police.

Keep the AFAC number attached to the photo and contact the AFAC (at Voltastraat 11 (at the back) in Leeuwarden.

A charge of € 25.00 is made to collect an impounded bicycle. You can pay by debit card or in cash. All bicycles brought in are checked for whether they are on the stolen bicycles list. If a bicycle had been stolen, you are not charged to collect it.
Police report
Can’t find your bike at the AFAC? In that case, your bike may have been stolen. In that case, report it to the Police.
