Sewerage problems

There could be several reasons why the sewer system is not working properly.

Is your waste water not draining?

Your sewer may be blocked. Call a drainage company. They can use a camera to find out what is wrong.

What to do in case of a blockage?

Is there a blockage? You will need to solve this yourself. Blockages are often caused by grease, clothes or small objects in the sewer, for example. The costs are at your expense.

Is the sewer damaged?

Sometimes the sewer stops working due to a crack, subsidence or tree roots. Is the problem on your land? If so, you must repair it yourself. Is the problem on local authority land? In that case, the local authority is responsible.

Are the costs covered?

Is the problem on local authority land? Then you can reclaim the costs. Send the report and images from the drainage company to the local authority. You will find more information on the local authority website. You will find more information on the page “Holding the local authority liable”.

Applying for a sewer connection

Are you not yet connected to the sewerage system and want to be connected? Or do you want to have the connection of your sewer pipe to the main sewer replaced during a renovation? You can apply for this by filling a living, working and living environment application.

Urgent situations outside office hours

Contact the police. They will contact the local authority’s fault clearance service.
