Quick to:

What is Skills in Leeuwarden?

The Salvation Army, Wender and Limor want to implement the ‘Skills in Leeuwarden’ project in the building. Skills offers a home, (sheltered) living and support to 48 young adults aged 16 to 27. These young adults need support in several areas. Skills gives them their own place where they are helped to further grow in independence and maturity. The focus is on working together and helping people along the way with the help of professionals, experienced experts and other young people.

Where we are now?

The building will receive particular attention in the coming period and we will do this together with the sounding board group. The implementation of the Skills in the City program will also be further developed in the near future. We are tackling this together with the Salvation Army, Wender, Limor, Social Domain Fryslân and the Social Domain Advisory Council.

Information meeting

An information meeting was held for local residents of the property at Jacob Catsplein 3 on Tuesday 8 October. At this meeting, the architect presented the preliminary proposal. Attendees were also taken through the process and given information bout the group that will be living in the property. More information? View the presentation.

Sounding board group

The sounding board group was started with the aim of having direct discussions with local residents about the arrival of Skills. A sounding board group is a group that gives advice and discusses various matters with each other. During the period of preparation for the start, we discuss topics that could lead to possible nuisance. These may be topics during the construction phase and when the property is occupied and used. The following topics are also discussed:

  • Layout of the building with the outdoor area.
  • The way the building will be used.
  • Contact between healthcare providers and local residents. What do we expect from each other?

The sounding board group consists of 9 people from the Jacob Catsplein area and the neighbourhood panel, the municipality and healthcare providers. The members of the sounding board group also speak on behalf of other residents in the neighbourhood. They have an advisory role.
