Direct debit for local taxes
With a direct debit, the amount of the assessment will be deducted from your account in 10 monthly instalments. You cannot apply for this for cemetery fees, tourist tax and additional parking tax assessments. You can request, change or withdraw a direct debit digitally yourself.

How does a direct debit (authorisation) work?
- The amount will be debited from your account around the last day of the month.
- You pay the first amount in the month after the date shown on the assessment.
- The authorisation you issue is also valid for future years.
- The authorisation remains valid following your decease. Your heirs can revoke or amend the authorisation themselves.
- The authorisation remains valid if you separate from your partner. So check carefully which account number the authorisation applies to.
- Use one account number per person. Do you receive both a private assessment and a business assessment in your name? Both amounts will be debited from that one account number.
- If we are unable to debit your account (this is called reversal), you will receive a letter from us. For example, because there is not enough money in your account. We divide the amount you should have paid over the upcoming debits. Your monthly fee increases.
- Have we been unable to debit a monthly amount a second time? In that case, we settle that second amount in the same way. Your monthly amount will increase even further for the last few months.
- Have we been unable to debit a monthly amount a third time? In that case, we will no longer debit your account that calendar year. You will receive a letter from us. You must transfer the amount that you still have to pay yourself. Direct debit will again apply for the following calendar year.
- In some cases, the direct debit stops permanently. This happens if:
- your account number is blocked for direct debits;
- you reverse the amount yourself.
You will receive a letter from us. You will have to pay the outstanding amount yourself. Direct debit does not start again automatically in the following year.
Two debits by the City of Leeuwarden
You have received two assessments this year. An assessment for local taxes and an assessment for waste collection (variable part). Direct debit applies to both assessments. Therefore, two amounts will be debited from your account.
Disagree with amount debited
Have the amount reversed by your own bank within 56 days. Contact your bank for this.
