Medical waste allowance
Do you have a lot of important waste due to an illness or disability? Then apply for allowance for part of your waste tax. Heavy medical waste is, for example, incontinence material, ostomy material, dialysis material or fluid bags or infusion bags. It does not include medicines, injection needles or medical food packaging. You can make no more than 1 application per household.
Are you unwilling or unable to apply online?
Download and complete the Application form medical waste allowance scheme. Send the form to the City of Leeuwarden. You can also hand it in at the Town Hall.
Who is eligible for the allowance?
- Residents of the City of Leeuwarden.
- If you have unavoidable medical waste. For example, because you have a stoma, are on home dialysis, need chronic wound care or use incontinence materials.
- If you do not live in a care facility.
Disposable nappies without medical indication
This allowance is not intended for parents of children who use disposable nappies (without medical indication).
No doctor’s certificate required
You do not require a doctor’s medical certificate. However, you must be able to show that you are using medical materials. This could be a packing slip or a statement from the healthcare insurer.
Until when can you apply?
This is possible all year round.
Would you like to receive the allowance for the current year?
Then request it before December 1.
When will you be notified?
We do our best to respond within eight weeks. This may take longer due to the heavy volume of applications.
Once your application has been approved, the compensation will start on January 1 of the current year. This is retroactive.
How much is the allowance?
The local authority reimburses half of the variable part of your waste collection levy. However, your application must first be approved.
The allowance will be automatically deducted from your assessment.
Do you have to reapply for allowance every year?
No, that is not necessary. Once your application has been approved, you will receive the allowance until you stop it yourself.
Will you receive compensation and will your situation change?
For example, because you have (almost) no medical waste anymore? Then we expect you to report this to the municipality. The municipality carries out random checks to see whether allocated allowance schemes are still legal.
How to stop the allowance?
Contact the City of Leeuwarden.
