An ordinary bicycle
An ordinary bicycle is a bicycle that is not specially designed for people with disabilities (impairments). Examples of ordinary bicycles include an electric bike, a bicycle with an auxiliary motor, a bicycle with a step, a recumbent bicycle, a cargo bicycle, a bicycle trailer, tandem and a trailer bicycle. You can buy these (second-hand) from a bike shop.
A special (adapted) bicycle
An special bicycle is a bicycle that is specially designed for people with disabilities (impairments). Or a bike specially adapted for someone with a disability. A special (adapted) bicycle is, for example, a tricycle or a (attachable) hand bike.
Do you need a special (adapted) bike?
Do you live in a care facility?
Such as a nursing home or disability care institution? Are you not paying living expenses such as rent, gas, water, electricity for this? Apply for a special (adapted) bicycle from the Zorgkantoor Friesland.
Do you need a special (adapted) bike to get to work or education?
Apply for a special (adapted) bicycle from the UWV.
Need a special bike for other situations?
Then you may be eligible for a special bicycle under the Wmo. Contact the City of Leeuwarden to discuss this.
How do I submit an application?
Submit your application online (you will need DigiD). Are you unwilling or unable to apply online? Download and complete the Wmo Application Form. Send the form by post to the City of Leeuwarden. You can also hand it in at the Town Hall.
What happens next?
A local authority employee will call you within 6 weeks of receiving your application. The employee will first ask for more information about your situation. This can be done through a telephone interview or a meeting at your home. A solution is sought together with you. The local authority will let you know within 2 weeks of the interview whether you are eligible for a special (adapted) bicycle. You pay a personal contribution for a facility under the Wmo.
If there are many applications at once, it may take a little longer. The local authority will inform you of this.
